How Much Does a Kitchen Remodel Cost in Chandler & the East Valley in 2026?

By Alpha Remodelers · Veteran-owned · East Valley, AZ

A kitchen remodel in the Phoenix East Valley costs between $18,000 and $175,000 in 2026, depending on how much of the kitchen you’re actually changing.

The single biggest factor is cabinets. If you keep your existing cabinet boxes, you’re looking at $18,000 to $35,000. If you’re replacing them, most full kitchen remodels land between $55,000 and $95,000. Custom work with structural changes runs $100,000 and up.

Alpha Remodelers is a veteran-owned remodeling company based in Chandler. We’ve been remodeling kitchens and bathrooms across the East Valley for over 20 years, and our owner Travis has specialized in tile since 2004. This guide breaks down what actually drives the number on your estimate, so you can plan a budget that survives contact with reality.

Kitchen Remodel Cost by Scope

Cosmetic Refresh: $18,000 – $35,000

A refresh updates how your kitchen looks without touching the layout or replacing cabinet boxes. It’s the right call when your kitchen works fine but looks like it was installed in 2004.

Typically includes cabinet refacing or repainting, new countertops, new sink and faucet, backsplash tile, updated hardware, and improved lighting. You keep your existing cabinet boxes, appliances, and usually your flooring.

Two to three weeks, minimal disruption.

The catch: refacing only makes sense if your boxes are solid. If they’re particleboard and sagging, you’re putting new doors on a failing frame. We’ll tell you straight which one you have.

Full Kitchen Remodel: $55,000 – $95,000

This is the most common project we do. New cabinets, new surfaces, new everything you touch — without moving walls.

Typically includes new semi-custom or custom cabinetry, quartz or granite countertops, tile backsplash, new flooring, updated plumbing and electrical fixtures, layered lighting with under-cabinet lights, and paint. Minor layout changes like adding an island or peninsula are usually in range, though relocating plumbing adds cost.

Four to eight weeks.

Cabinetry alone typically runs $30,000 to $60,000 of that number, installed. That’s the line item people underestimate most, and it’s why quotes from different contractors can differ by tens of thousands of dollars for what sounds like the same kitchen. More on that below.

Custom Kitchen: $100,000 – $175,000+

A custom kitchen involves structural change — removing a wall, expanding the footprint, adding a butler’s pantry — along with premium materials throughout.

Typically includes fully custom cabinetry, premium stone like marble or quartzite, professional-grade appliances, custom lighting design, hardwood or large-format tile, and structural modifications.

Three to six months, with real design and planning time on the front end.

What Actually Drives the Price

Cabinets: 35–45% of Your Budget

Cabinets are the largest single line item in almost every kitchen, and the quality range is enormous.

RTA and stock cabinets ($8,000 – $20,000 installed) are usually particleboard boxes with a laminate finish, assembled on site. They look fine on day one. The question is what they look like on year seven in a house where the dishwasher runs daily.

Semi-custom cabinets ($25,000 – $45,000 installed) use plywood box construction, dovetail drawer boxes, soft-close hardware, and real door and finish options. This is where most East Valley kitchens land, and it’s where Alpha does the majority of our work through Sollid Cabinetry.

Custom cabinets ($45,000 – $80,000+ installed) are built to your exact dimensions with specialty storage, integrated appliance panels, and finish matching.

If you’re getting quotes that are $20,000 apart, the difference is almost always here. Ask every contractor what the box is made of, how the drawers are built, and what the warranty covers.

Countertops

Quartz is the most popular choice in the East Valley and runs $50 to $100 per square foot installed. Granite is comparable at $45 to $90. Marble and quartzite start around $100 and climb past $200. Laminate is $10 to $40 and still has a place in rental and flip work.

Labor

Labor is typically 25% to 35% of project cost. Skilled trades in the Phoenix metro — electricians, plumbers, tile setters — bill $75 to $150 per hour, and rates have climbed with construction demand. General contractor management and coordination typically adds 15% to 25%.

Arizona-Specific Factors

Sun exposure is real. South- and west-facing kitchens fade finishes faster, and we’ll steer you toward UV-stable materials in those rooms.

Summer scheduling matters. A kitchen open to the rest of the house in July means your HVAC is fighting a losing battle. We plan sequencing around it.

Hard water is the quiet one. East Valley water is hard enough to shorten the life of faucets and dishwashers noticeably. It’s worth spending on fixtures rated for it.

Where to Save

Keep the plumbing where it is. Moving a sink, dishwasher, or fridge water line adds $1,000 to $5,000. If the layout functions, leave it.

Upgrade the cabinet you’re already buying instead of jumping tiers. Soft-close hardware and better drawer boxes on a semi-custom line usually beats a stripped-down custom line at the same price.

Use ceramic or porcelain tile for the backsplash. $15 to $30 per square foot installed, versus $50 to $100+ for natural stone or designer tile. This is the most visible dollar-per-impact swap in the kitchen.

Buy mid-tier appliances. KitchenAid, Bosch, and Café perform well and cost a fraction of professional-grade. Unless you genuinely cook like a restaurant, the Wolf range is jewelry.

Where to Spend

Cabinet boxes. You can change doors later. You can’t change what the box is made of. This is the one place where cheap comes back to bite you.

Countertops. You touch them every day, and quartz handles Arizona kitchens with almost no maintenance.

Lighting. Layered lighting — recessed, under-cabinet, and pendants — changes how the room feels more than any other single upgrade at its price.

Ventilation. A properly sized range hood matters more in tight modern homes than most people expect.

Does a Kitchen Remodel Pay for Itself?

Partially, and it depends heavily on scope. Cosmetic updates recoup a much higher share of their cost at resale than full custom kitchens do — you get diminishing returns fast past the mid-range tier.

In the East Valley, where buyers compare a lot of similar-era homes, a dated kitchen is one of the most common reasons a listing sits. An updated one helps a home move faster more reliably than it raises the sale price.

If you’re staying five or more years, the resale math matters less than the fact that you’ll be standing in this room every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does a small kitchen remodel cost in Chandler?

A small kitchen under 100 square feet typically runs $18,000 to $40,000. Cosmetic updates — counters, backsplash, refacing — sit at the low end. New cabinets and layout changes push toward the top.

Why is one kitchen quote $25,000 and another $50,000?

Almost always cabinets. An RTA cabinet quote and a plywood semi-custom quote can describe the same kitchen on paper and differ by $25,000 in what’s actually installed. Ask what the boxes are made of, how the drawers are constructed, whether installation is included, and what the warranty covers. Also ask whether design, measuring, and renderings are included or billed separately.

How long does a kitchen remodel take?

Four to eight weeks for a full remodel. Two to three weeks for a cosmetic refresh. Three to six months for custom work with structural changes.

Should I get multiple estimates?

Yes — three is plenty. Compare materials, timeline, warranty, and references alongside price. The lowest bid usually got there by removing something, and you want to know what.

Can I live in my house during a kitchen remodel?

Most of our clients do. You’ll be without a kitchen sink and range for the bulk of the project, so plan on a temporary setup — microwave, coffee maker, and a bathroom sink for dishes. We seal off the work area and clean the site daily so the rest of the house stays livable. For custom projects with structural work, some families move out for a few weeks in the middle.
